For those having an interest in learning or improving their skills in cake decorating and sugarcraft, we organise courses, periodically.

PLEASE NOTE EACH COURSE HAS A LIMIITED NUMBER OF PLACES AND WILL OPERATE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS

Once again we are running a selection of courses beginning in February, listed below is an outline of each course content and running times. All courses are run on our premises and have limited spaces, and will therefore run on a first come first served basis with a deposit securing your place, and the balance being paid at the beginning of your first lesson by cheque or cash. Courses will involve some home work and the need to purchase some specialist equipment which we offer a 5% discount on, please allow plenty of time before the start of your class to make any necessary purchases.

If you wish to reserve a place on any of these courses please download the full details and booking forms, and return the attached slip marking clearly which courses you are signing up for with a non-refundable £30.00 deposit per course or full payment of £30 for Saturday workshops. If you only wish to remain on the mailing list please also return the slip stating this and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Course One Royal Icing

More advanced techniques in royal icing this has been requested by a number of you. You will learn to marzipan and royal-ice a cake, make run-outs, piped lace and extension work.

For those with some experience, beginners will also benefit from this course.

Course Two: Spring Arrangement of Sugar Flowers

Working with flower paste and a variety of equipment, you will produce a stunning arrangement of daffodils and pussy willow in a dish.

Suitable for beginners.

Course Three: Chocolate!

Chocolate has become very popular in cake decoration over the last few years. There are now many new products available on the market. Your day will be spent covering and decorating a cake and making an Easter egg. Working with chocolate paste and couverture chocolate, you will learn many new techniques.

For beginners and those with some experience.

Course Four: Wonky Wedding Cake

Spend an enjoyable week-end decorating a wedding cake with a difference. Learn how to cut and stack and decorate a 3 tier novelty wedding cake. You will need to bake cakes at home for this course.

For beginners and those with some experience.

Course Five: Modelling People

This workshop has been requested by so many of you, and is now being offered for a second time as it proved so popular. The day will be spent modelling people by hand. You will learn many different techniques which you will use over and over again.

Beginners and those with some experience.

Course Six: A display of Sugar Flowers

Working with flower paste and a variety of equipment, you will produce poppy, cornflower and wheat in a dish.

Students should have some flower-making experience – an ideal course for those who attend the beginners to follow onto.

Course Seven: Wilton cake decorating - stage one

Welcome to cake decorating the Wilton Way. This is an introduction to cake decoration with butter cream, a fun course and different to any of our previous courses. You will be working with butter cream and learn how to cover and decorate your cakes to a beautiful finish.

Beginners especially welcome.

Course Eight: Wilton cake decorating – stage two

A continuation of decorating the ‘Wilton Way’. Those of you that have already done stage one will know what a valuable course this is.

For those who have attended stage one.

Course Nine: Clown novelty cake

This course has been requested by many of you, we have chosen a theme that will suit young and old alike. You will spend your day learning how to shape and decorate a clown novelty cake. You will be able to transfer these skills to many future projects.

For beginners and those with some experience.

Course Ten: Beginners Cake Decoration

Over the 2 days you will cover a rich fruit cake in marzipan and sugar paste or just sugar paste if you prefer a sponge cake (a dummy can also be used if you wish to keep your work). Make drapes and bows plus a garret frill. Finish of with a spray of freesias and a catalya orchid not forgetting writing in icing to give your cake that professional look. All these essential techniques will transfer to future projects.

You will need to bake a cake at home for this course; those not wanting to do so may use a dummy cake.

Complete beginners especially welcome.

Course Eleven: Full size Sugar Rose

Make a full size sugar rose with foliage in the colour of your choice; as described in Paddi’s new book ‘Sugar Flowers for Beginners’. This can be used as a cake top; a single rose will look magnificent on its own, or as a display piece in a vase will look beautiful too. The techniques to be used are the all in one method using a large cutter for the inner petals, and then individually wired outer petals.

Paddi’s book will be on sale why not take the opportunity to ask Paddi to sign it for you.

Course Twelve: Roses

Working in either cold porcelain or flower paste - make a beautiful exhibition rose to display in a tall vase then the Queen of Denmark rose in a spray with bougainvillea this will add a spectacular finish to any wedding or celebration cake.

Suitable for those with some experience.

Demonstrations

In addition to the above courses we are holding three different demonstrations giving you the opportunity to learn lots of new techniques and decorating ideas. Remember to bring a note book and pen (equipment not required). All demonstrations are run on our premises and have limited spaces, and will therefore be run on a first come first served basis with full payment of £10 to secure your place. We will offer a 10% discount on all sugarcraft purchases you make following the demonstration.

Demonstration One: Fabric Effects in Sugar

See how to create textured materials in sugar silks, satins, brocade, spots strips and more. Create drapes and fabric effect roses and leaves for cakes and boards. Truly stunning. An afternoon filled with ideas and visual effects.

Demonstration Two: Pond Flora and Fauna

Watch a demonstration to design an imaginative pond scene for a cake top or table decoration centre piece. Swimming black/white swans, tiny frogs, dragonflies and fossilized rock effects, water iris, marsh marigolds, bulrushes, dripping water and more... Fabulous ideas to take away and be creative with.

Demonstration Three: Sugar Enamelling

Be inspired to create something unusual and different for cake tops and side designs and cards. Pottery enamelling has vibrant colours and an appealing aura. We can do a similar thing in sugar. Come see and learn the simple but effect techniques to achieve something stunning.
